From the park there are two approaches to Springer Mt. One goes directly there, the other to a hostel (Len Foote Inn). It is run by the state of GA, and is smack dab in the middle of a national park. The only way to get there is to hike.
The inn provides bunkbed rooms, dinner, breakfast, and shower facilities (perfect!!!!)
It is eco-friendly, solar powered, composting toliets, and all trash is hike in/out.
I didn't tell the family that we were coming here (it was a surprise).
You must start your hike to the Inn before 2 pm (cause the orientation starts at 5pm and dinner at 6pm). The average hike to the inn is 3 hours.
Well, we were still on the trail at 6pm (I was passed out on the canopy floor trying to collect myself) when Wade came running down the trail asking if we were the Williams family.
MJ was shocked and didn't know what to think about that!
"Hurry up, you are about to miss dinner. You can go to your rooms, drop your stuff, and freshen up at the shower facilities"
It was classic. A red shirted trail angel running down the trail asking for the Williams with the promise of dinner, shower, and room.
MJ says she still feels she will wake up on the forest floor having dreamed the above.
Perfect!!! Could not have planned it better.
It was the stuff of urban legends.....
